 FAQ

  • The W-Trek is commonly known as one of the best hikes in the world, and for good reason. Embark on a multi-day pilgrimage route through one of the most stunning regions of Patagonia.

Located in the heart of Torres Del Paine National Park in Chile, the W-Trek, when viewed on a map, is in the shape of a “W”—hence the name.

Glaciers, giant jagged-edged sedimentary peaks, wildlife, beautiful forests, and blazing blue lakes await.

This jaw-dropping hike in the middle of the Andean mountain range is what adventure is all about!

  • Travelers arrive from all over the world to begin this epic adventure and it is not possible to include international airfare in our prices. We would be happy to help you arrange flights—simply email hello@sarahdweaver.com. Really, email us and we will help you.

  • We LOVE solo travelers! Most of our participants show up solo and leave with a whole group of new friends. Solo experiences open you up to opportunity like nothing else. Have courage, show up FOR yourself AND by yourself if you want to!

  • You need to be in reasonably good shape to hike the “W” Trek. We will be hiking around 50 miles in 5 days. Training is essential to your enjoyment of the trek—do the hard work before you get to Patagonia. You will also need to break in your shoes and make sure your backpack is comfortable.

  • No! You will not have to bring a tent or sleep in a tent. We have reserved a hot shower and soft(ish) bed for you each night of the hike. It will be in shared accommodation known as a refugios. Each refugios have dorm-style sleeping arrangements with 3-10 beds in a single room. All beds are twin-sized and a clean pillow and sheets are provided. And yes, there is wifi at the refugios!

  • While there may be an option to hire a porter, you will be expected to carry your own pack.

  • Although we will be visiting Patagonia in the summer (this is their summer!), the region is notorious for extreme weather. We may encounter heavy wind and rain. The average temperature in February is a high of 66 and a low of 45.

  • We keep our group sizes small so you have the freedom to move around and get a chance to really connect with one another. This intimate size ensures that you will have deep connections and a really good time. You can expect up to 13 travelers on this trip.

  • We always recommend packing as light as possible, however this trip will require some specific gear. We will send you everything you need to be prepared ahead of time, including a suggested packing list. Email hello@sarahdweaver.com if you have any questions.

  • You must be at least 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit for this tour. We expect most travelers on this trip will be 28-48.

  • No. It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early. However, you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for any/all costs associated with leaving early.

  • We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc. Keep in mind that you will need to carry your own luggage on and off buses/trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.

  • Yes, in most cases we can arrange additional accommodation at our starting or ending hotels. Email hello@sarahdweaver.com with specific questions and we will guide you.

  • Tips are not included in the tour price and tipping is entirely at your discretion.

  • It's important that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date travel health information for the region you will be visiting. There is a chance Chile may require you to be vaccinated. Please take it upon yourself to check the country’s most up-to-date travel information.

  • Nope. Come one; come all! We have an awesome guy already signed up! Singles and couples are also welcome to join us.

  • 90% of our travelers say that the group itself was the highlight of their trip. The HIGHLIGHT! As in, we see glaciers, climb mountains, kayak fjords, hike and bike entire circuits, and even amidst all of that, YOU are one of the best parts of the trip. In a nutshell, y’all are RAD.

  • This is not a luxury trip. You will be sharing rooms and sleeping in shared spaces on the hike. Part of this trip is stretching yourself and being out of your comfort zone One of the joys of international travel is experiencing different cultures and different ways of life, so we hope that you will accept these differences with grace and a sense of adventure.

Sarah does host luxury events three times a year. Email hello@sarahdweaver.com if you want to be put on the waitlist for those trips.
