 Safari Itinerary

  • If coming from the U.S. you'll be taking a flight the day before the event starts because it's a bit of a long flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Additional days can be arranged for $150/per person per night (includes meals and accommodation). If you want any help with flights, Sarah is a flight booking queen and is happy to help!

Those wanting to arrive a day or two early, simply email us hello@sarahdweaver.com.

  • Arrive to Tanzania via air, where we will pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Arrive a day before the safari starts as we would like for everyone to be in attendance for dinner and trip overview at 6:00 p.m. that evening.

Those arriving earlier can enjoy some downtime after the long flight, after which we will convene together in the hotel lobby.

Before dinner at the hotel restaurant, meet with your host Sarah Weaver, and your lead driver and guide, Josh. We will go over the schedule for the next few days in general, focusing primarily on the itinerary for the next day.

After dinner retire to your room and get a good rest, as we'll start early the next day.

  • Wake up around 7:00 a.m. and head to the restaurant for breakfast. Around 8:00 a.m. we will make our way to Tarangire National Park (approx. two hours driving). We will spend the late morning doing a game drive in the park. We will have lunch at a lodge in the park around 1:00 pm. After lunch, we will head back on the road to see more animals.

At around 3:30 p.m., we will head out of the park, en route to our next lodging in Karatu town, arriving at the property around dusk, in time to clean up before dinner together.

After dinner, we will do a recap of the day, and a presentation on what to expect the next day. After that, you're free to go back to your room and rest or hang out with the other guests at the lodge.

  • After breakfast at the lodge, we will make our way towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, only a short drive away.

After checking in at the park gate, we will grab some photos from the top of the crater rim, then travel onward towards Serengeti National Park (approximately three hours).

We will have another check-in at the park gate, during which we will enjoy a picnic lunch prepared by our lodge.

After check-in and lunch have finished we will make our way towards the luxury tented lodge within the boundaries of the park, stopping to see the animals on the way.

Arriving just before nightfall, you’ll have time to wash up before dinner. Dinner at the lodge, followed by the day's briefing.

Note: the total driving time this day is about five to six hours, so we'll be sure to make as many stops as needed for restrooms and to stretch our legs on the way. Bring your real estate questions for this drive! This is a great opportunity to build relationships.

  • For those that are doing the sunrise hot air balloon, you’ll awaken around 4:00 am, have some coffee and snacks, and then proceed to head to the launching site. After an hour or so in the air, you’ll be treated to a lovely safari breakfast in the middle of the bush, arriving back at the visitor center around 10:00 am where you’ll rejoin the rest of the group.

For the rest of you, sleep in a bit, enjoy breakfast and then head out for a game drive until lunchtime, which will either be back at the lodge or at a picnic site. We'll then spend a few more hours out on the plains, looking out for leopards, cheetahs, and lions that are all over the area.

Dinner is back at the lodge, after which we will talk about the schedule for the next few days in the Serengeti.

  • This is the day when we will try to catch up with the wildebeest herds. This time of year they are (usually) in the central area of the park, so it should be relatively easy to get to.

Depending on how the herds are moving, we may opt for a picnic lunch to be able to spend more time out on the plains in search of the wildebeest. We'll make sure to advance at a comfortable pace with as many breaks as needed.

Dinner back at the lodge after returning around dusk, after which we’ll go over the plans for the day ahead.

  • After breakfast we will make a slow departure towards the east, heading towards Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (while looking for animals on the way, of course). Arrive at our beautiful destination, overlooking the 12-mile-wide crater at around 10:30 am.

We will spend the entire morning driving through the crater, after which we will have a picnic lunch at a designated area within the park around 1:00 pm. After lunch, we will continue our game drive for a while longer before heading back to our lodge in Karatu for the evening.

Dinner at the lodge, followed by the day’s recap and plans for the day ahead.

  • After breakfast at the lodge, we will head towards Arusha, stopping at souvenir stores for a short time if anyone would like to grab anything.

After that, we will have the chance to stop by a local Maasai village, to see their traditional dances, handicrafts, and the way in which they live their lives. We’ll have lunch afterward nearby, eventually arriving in Arusha in the late afternoon.

Special farewell dinner that evening to cap things off.

  • Although the exact timing depends on your departure schedule, generally we will wake up, have a leisurely breakfast, and then relax at the lodge until it's time to drive you to the airport for your flight. (Those joining us for Kilimanjaro will have the entire day as a rest day at the lodge.)

Those not hiking Kilimanjaro can fly out any time on July 7 (we will transport you to the airport approximately four hours ahead of your flight’s departure time).
